Finasteride (1mg) (also known as Propecia® and Serophene®) is a medication used to treat male pattern baldness and may also be used for other conditions. It works by inhibiting an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, a hormone that causes hair follicles on the scalp, to shrink and eventually disappear altogether. Finasteride (1mg) is also sometimes used for the treatment of prostate enlargement. It may also be used for the treatment of high blood pressure, a condition in which high blood pressure is a risk factors for cardiovascular disease and may lead to low blood pressure.
PROSCAR (finasteride) is not a full-courtgreener than Propecia. Propecia is used to help stop hair loss in both men and women. It is also used to reduce the risk of some types of cancer in both men and women. The drug PROSCAR works by inhibiting an enzyme called type II 5-alpha reductase. This enzyme is responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a hormone that is important for maintaining the hair on the scalp. By blocking its action, PROSCAR reduces the amount of DHT in the body. The drug is not prescribed to women and men. It is only prescribed to men who have a prostate gland or have been diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Propecia and finasteride are both available by prescription only. The FDA has approved the generic form of PROSCAR, which is also available as Proscar (for the treatment of BPH).

Finasteride (generic name: Propecia®) is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. It is available in the form of tablets and oral solution, but it is also used to treat a number of conditions. The treatment plan is different for each individual. Propecia can be taken daily, with or without food. It is important to note that Propecia should only be taken under the supervision of a healthcare provider. The dosage and length of treatment will depend on the individual's condition and the healthcare provider's assessment. It is important to follow the dosage and duration of treatment as prescribed by your doctor. Regular follow-up appointments with your healthcare provider are important to monitor your progress and to make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. If you are unable to take the medication regularly, your doctor may recommend reducing the dose to one tablet daily. If you do not see results within 3 to 6 months, your doctor may recommend taking another 5-alpha reductase inhibitor for another 3 to 6 months. While Propecia is a medication used to treat conditions like androgenetic alopecia, it can also be used to treat prostate and female pattern hair loss. It is important to discuss the risks and benefits of using finasteride with your doctor. In addition, the benefits and risks of using Propecia to treat male pattern hair loss and prostate enlargement are discussed in the guidelines.
The recommended starting dose of Propecia is one tablet taken by mouth. However, if you are taking any other medications, your healthcare provider may adjust the dosage accordingly. It is important to note that Propecia can be taken with or without food. You may experience mild side effects such as nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, flushing, or headache. These side effects are usually temporary and resolve once the medication is stopped. The maximum daily dose is 100 mg.
